Paying to park

On many of the Stockholm’s streets you need to pay a fee to park.

You can pay for your parking using the digital payment services of the contractors who have agreements with the City of Stockholm to sell parking on public space in Stockholm or in pay-and-display machines.

Digital payment services

To park on public space in the City of Stockholm, you pay for the parking via the contractors who have agreements with the City through an authorisation system. Under these agreements, the contractors must provide digital payment services. There are four contractors in the system at the moment; Easypark, Epark, Mobill and Parkster. Choose the contractor that best suits your needs.

Please note that contractors are permitted to offer add-on parking services and that charges may vary between contractors.

Contractors that offer parking by app without extra charges

Parkster and Epark offer parking without extra charges through their apps.

Epark

To park with Epark without an extra charge you need to:

  • use the Epark app
  • create a verified account
  • choose a debit card as your payment method.

To verify your account, update the app to the latest version and verify your account using BankID under “My Account” in the app.

With Epark, you can opt to verify your account or to leave it unverified. However, if you have not verified your account using BankID, you are automatically subject to the terms and conditions for Epark Quick. An administration fee is charged for this service. For this reason, you should verify your account in the app using BankID to avoid the extra fee.

Resident parking is also possible with Epark with no extra fee. Remember that you need a valid resident parking permit from the City of Stockholm.

To park with Easypark with no extra fees, there is an online service that has been specially designed for parking in Stockholm.

The online service is a simplified version of Easypark’s app where you can, for example, start, stop or extend parking sessions. To pay for parking in public space with the online service, you need to know which tariff zone you are parking in. Information about the tariff zone for parking in public space is available on the street signage.

Easypark’s full range of services for parking and charging can be accessed in the Easypark app with additional fees.

Resident parking is also possible with Easypark with no extra fee. Remember that you need a valid resident parking permit from the City of Stockholm.

The new authorisation system

In the new parking authorisation system, the City requires every contractor to offer a payment service without additional fees over and above the parking tariff. All of the City’s tariffs for parking in public space (tariff rates 1–30) must be available in the services, including rates for resident parking.

There are currently four contractors in the system. The contractors who have agreements with the City are:

  • Easypark
  • Epark
  • Mobill
  • Parkster.

Two of the contractors offer a payment service without extra charges in their apps (Parkster and Epark) and two via online services (Easypark and Mobill).

If your chosen contractor does not meet the expected requirements for a service, we suggest that you compare them with the other contractors.

Parking permits

If you live or work in the City of Stockholm, you can apply for a parking permit. These allow you to park in specific places or for a lower fee.

Apply for an exemption

If you need to drive and park where it is prohibited, you need to apply for a driving and parking permit. You can do this by applying for an exemption (exception) from the local traffic regulations.
